Hop on up on the Fashion Week beauty carousel! You can just sit back and enjoy the ride because we’ve done all the fancy footwork to bring you the top three makeup trends seen during New York’s most chic week.
Catwalk cosmetics
Clear skin
We couldn’t help but notice a craze of clear, oxygenated-looking skin on the spring 2013 runways. We have officially moved on from the over-bronzed, sun-drenched complexion of years past in favor of evenness and purity. Seen on the catwalks of Falguni & Shane Peacock, Derek Lam (right) and Proenza Schouler, to name a few, this look relies on even-toned skin and face highlighter.
Start by minimally covering imperfections wherever necessary with concealer like the Veil Cosmetics Illuminating Complexion Fix used on the Falguni & Shane Peacock runway. Then, follow with a subtle pink-based liquid highlighter about two shades lighter than your skin tone. Carefully blend this brightening potion on the center of your forehead, high atop your cheekbones, on the bridge of your nose, as well as on the center of your chin. The overall effect is oh-so-uplifting and creates such a youthful appearance!
Technicolor eyes
Another couldn’t-miss trend was technicolor eyes: pink, coral, aqua and more! These splashes of vivid eyeshadow make for guaranteed fun during application, leaving you giddy at just the thought of experimenting with so many eye-popping hues.
Michael Kors showed a bright-blue eye crease that could be seen all the way from the nosebleed section; Diego Binetti presented a pink watercolor look that blended from the lash line up to the eyebrows and then all the way from the temples to the upper cheekbones; Donna Karan’s models had their eyes rimmed all the way around in the brightest of fuchsias — definitely for the most fearless fashionistas!
Other notable mentions: electric pastels on the lips for ‘60s spin as seen at Falguni and Shane Peacock, and a strong eyebrow that brings to mind Brooke Shields in the ‘80s.
Neutral lip
While not the boldest, one of the most notable beauty looks of the season was the neutral lip. From Alexander Wang to Victoria Beckham to Thakoon, pouts had been all but erased from the face using concealer pressed into place with the fingertip or using a lip brush. However, unless you are naturally inclined to go a bit more tomboyish or avant garde, this look will most likely remain untouched by most.
Hopefully, by the time the London, Milan and Paris merry-go-round of fashion is over, all these tendances beauté won’t have left you in a confused tizzy, but au contraire, have you commanding attention and exuding confidence with your very own beauty interpretations!
