Beauty inspired by Pantone’s 2013 Color of the Year

Emerald green is everywhere!

Pantone’s color of the year

Kate Middleton loves it— and now you will, too! Pantone just named emerald green as its official color of 2013, the company announced earlier this week.

“Green is the most abundant hue in nature — the human eye sees more green than any other color in the spectrum,” said Leatrice Eiseman, executive director of the Pantone Color Institute.

“It’s also the color of growth, renewal and prosperity — no other color conveys regeneration more than green. For centuries, many countries have chosen green to represent healing and unity.”

The rich hue is the pregnant Duchess’ color of choice — she’s worn an emerald green Mulberry dress to several events over the past year. And why not? It’s flattering on everyone, no matter if your skin tone is pale or dark.

Need some inspiration to work emerald into your wardrobe and beauty routine? We’ve rounded up some of our favorite looks and beauty products for your face, nails and body.

Face

Emerald works best on the eyes as either shadow or liner. For eyeshadow, we’re loving Elizabeth Arden’s Beautiful Color Eye Shadows in Shimmering Emerald. The colors are even infused with vitamins A and E and Retinyl Linoleate to moisturize and reduce the appearance of fine lines and wrinkles. The emerald eyeshadow retails for $19 at Macy’s.

Want to go brighter? Make Up For Ever offers up a cream eyeshadow in emerald green. The cream is formulated for easy blending and is guaranteed to last without creasing. Find it at Sephora for $23.

Make Up For Ever also sells their popular Aqua Liner in emerald green. It’s water-, smudge- and tear-proof with a foam tip for easy application. Available at Sephora for $23.

Nails

Emerald green works especially well for our nails — it’s bright but still professional enough for the office. Nail pro Skyy Hadley of As “U” Wish Nail Spa told SheKnows her customers are already asking for the color because “jewel-toned emerald is a classically elegant color that makes my clients feel sophisticated, rejuvenated, balanced and radiant,” she said.

Hadley gave us a rundown on her favorite emerald green nail polishes. Her favorite? Sally Hansen’s Magnetic Nail Color in Electric Emerald.

“I really love this fun and easy magnetic trend!” she said.

Another favorite Hadley uses on her customers is China Glaze’s Emerald Sparkle and ZOYA Nail Polish in Suvi ($8).

“Love the strong and durable formulas!” she added.

We also love, love, love butter LONDON’s emerald shade, British Racing Green 3-Free Nail Lacquer ($14).

Jewelry

Emerald green is a perfect accent color for accessories. We literally spent the majority of an afternoon going through the various emerald-tinged accessories we found. Our faves? We’re loving this Malchite Resin and Scarab Cuff by Kara Ross ($350). The green — set off by the black and gold — gives off a serious elegant vibe that can be dressed up or down.

We’re also in love with these Diva Green Quartz & Labradorite earrings ($250), mostly because it’s something we can picture the Duchess of Cambridge wearing. These Green Avain earrings ($198) are also totally cute — and different.
