Sublative treatments: What are they and do they really work?

New hope for rebellious skin

It’s not often that I can credit a single beauty product or treatment for dramatically improving my badly-behaving skin. But after recently giving what’s called a Sublative treatment a try at the National Laser Institute Medical Spa in Scottsdale, I can safely say that I’m pleasantly surprised by this treatment and its results.

The 411 on Sublative treatments

What is a Sublative treatment?

So what exactly is a Sublative treatment? Well, for starters, it’s the world’s first RF applicator and is a non-laser and non-light-based aesthetic device.

What does it do?

And now the important question: What can it do for you? Long story short, think of this little baby as your laser-free skin resurfacing savior. It stimulates new collagen growth in the deep dermis and is used to treat textural irregularities, wrinkles, acne scarring and sun spots. Even though Sublative treatments don’t involve lasers, they can totally resurface the skin, simulating the same effects of various similar laser treatments.

And here’s the kicker: Any skin color or skin type, from dry to sensitive to oily and everything in between, is a candidate for this quick 20-minute treatment. Now that’s something most skin treatments don’t even come close to doing.

Does it hurt?

It’s an important and fair question, and I’ll be completely honest: The Sublative treatment isn’t entirely painless, but it’s certainly bearable. And any gal who’s sat through a round of facial extractions can tell you that the temporary discomfort certainly pays off.

The irritation you experience during the procedure feels similar to a dull tingly feeling, and my skin glowed with a slightly irritated pink for about 48 hours. The good news was that makeup could be applied the next morning, so I scheduled an after-work appointment, gave my skin the night off, and then it was business as usual the very next day.

How does it work?

The treatment works its magic by stimulating the collagen in the dermis. Sublative Rejuvenation uses fractional bi-polar radio frequency to break through the skin while keeping its top layer undamaged. This allows more energy to get underneath the exterior of the skin and really make the most of collagen production.

Throughout the course of the treatment, wrinkles, textural abnormalities, sun spots and acne scars are attacked from the inside out. Even after one treatment, there’s a considerable difference even among the deepest of scars, such as ice pick scars. On the flipside, Sublative is also able to treat fine wrinkles and crows feet.
