Shopping tips and tricks from Brad Goreski

The fashionisto’s style method

Shopping with brad

When we watch him on It’s a Brad Brad World or obsessively refresh his Twitter feed, there’s always that voice in the back of our head begging for his clone to exist so he can be our shopping buddy. Fashion-world darling and bright-eyed celebrity stylist Brad Goreski is sharing his shopping tips.

Take stock of what you already have

See what you need and what you don’t. “If you’re anything like most of my friends, I bet you have some incredible stylish pieces tucked away that have never been worn,” Goreski says in his latest eBay Selling Style video. “We’ve all been there.” Shimmering in one of his classic bright suits, Goreski recites quintessential shopping mistakes, such as buying the size-too-small pair of Louboutin heels or investing in that enticing Missoni dress that you’ve never had the occasion for. He suggests freeing up that closet space first by parting with those items first.

Sell what you don’t need

Goreski suggests adding a new element to your shopping routine by selling with eBay’s new mobile app — a dangerously simple way to keep your wardrobe current with fashion trends. “You can free up closet space or earn extra cash to find your new fashion finds,” he says of his portable pre-shopping trick. For successful selling, Goreski recommends a few simple steps: create super-catchy description, snap a cute photo, set a price and sell your way to more room for shopping — all from your precious mobile devices — and “say goodbye to closet commitment.”

Splurge on investments, not trends

Some of us have seen our credit card statements filled with purchases like 4-inch spike heels, crop tops and candy-colored skinny jeans. Flash-forward six months and we don’t know what hit us or where to wear these pieces. Instead of splurging on trends, spend wisely. Invest in the $500 pair of patent nude designer pumps and $100 on the trendy heels. Buy a well-made denim button-down instead of an overly expensive trend top — you can wear the denim button-down countless ways. Invest in your outfit future, not your outfit of the day.

Accessories do more than accessorize

Personal style is in the details. Victoria Beckham has become a fashion icon through her accessories — we’re all still swooning over her famous Birkins. Many of us go straight to the racks and worry about accessories later, but we should flip that routine around. We’re more likely to invest in statement accessories or a to-die-for handbag at the beginning of our shopping day. We are more fashionably brave and fashion is all about risks —  even the little ones.
