In-flight beauty: Look better en route

Whether you are traveling for work, visiting far-flung family and friends or jetting off on an exotic adventure, there are several products that can help you maintain your look no matter how long you’re in the air.

Mineral water spray

The air on planes is dry and notorious for depleting skin of much-needed moisture. One of the best ways to avoid tightness and discomfort from lack of hydration is to periodically mist your face with a mineral water spray. Our picks: Evian Mineral Water Spray ($11) and La Roche-Posay Thermal Spring Water ($9). Skin feels revived and looks more supple. Some (including Evian) come in mini versions, making them easier to pack.

Facial cleansing wipes

If you are on a particularly long or overnight flight, one of the best ways to keep skin refreshed is to cleanse your skin before and after any sleeping you do. Since lugging a full makeup case of products into the cramped on-board bathroom is not ideal, having facial cleansing cloths on hand is the next best thing. Opt for a product containing natural ingredients that cleanse, tone and revitalize skin. Our pick: Kaia Naturals Bamboo Cleansing Cloths ($18) featuring 99 percent natural ingredients. Follow with a travel version of your favorite moisturizer to further soothe skin or a hydrating serum to really boost in-flight moisture. Try Dermalogica Skin Hydrating Booster ($54).

Dry shampoo

No shower on board? No problem. You can wash your hair when you reach your destination, but in between, you might want to refresh your tresses. Your best option for livening up your locks after or during a long flight is dry shampoo, many of which come in travel size versions. Our pick: Bumble and Bumble Hair Powder to Go ($19) comes in smaller versions of several shades, including black, brown and blondish. Simply spray on and gently comb through. Dry shampoo absorbs excess oil, adds volume and extends the life of your style, making them perfect in-flight beauty companions.

Eye roller

Since travel can be stressful and exhausting, it’s no surprise the under-eye area suffers. Puffy skin and dark circles are a rite of passage for most frequent flyers, which is why having an eye roller can make a big difference in how you look and feel. These products feel cool against your skin and offer instant relief for tired, puffy eyes. Choose from several including our pick:  Clinique All About Eyes Serum De-puffing Eye Massage ($26), which works to refresh over-worked eyes.

Cheek and lip stain

No one needs a full face of makeup while flying, but once you disembark, you may want to add a little color to your complexion. The easiest way to do this is with a multitasking lip and cheek stain that can brighten your skin in just a few swipes. The color is usually sheer, natural-looking and fool-proof to apply. Our picks: Tarte Cheek Stain ($30, which can be used on lips) or Stila Lip and Cheek Stain ($24), which comes in a rainbow of hues.
