How to save money on your holiday shopping

Use the right credit card

If you aren’t able to pay with cash, at least use the credit card with the best terms. Most people don’t even know the interest rates on their cards. Do your research, and use the card with the lowest interest and with cash back bonuses, if possible.

Buy family gifts

Instead of buying individual gifts for your best friend, her hubby and kids, buy a group gift for the whole family instead. Board games are fabulous family gift ideas.

Make homemade gifts

If you can sew, knit or bake, put your skills to work and make your gifts instead of buying them. Most people appreciate the time and love that go into handmade gifts.

Comparison shop

Use Google Shopper or a similar app to do price comparisons before you buy anything. Don’t forget to take shipping costs into account if you are shopping online.

Friend your favorite stores

Be sure to add your favorite retailers to your friends list on Facebook and follow them on Twitter. Stores often offer special deals and discounts that you can’t find anywhere else through social media sites.

Start early for next year

Take advantage of the after-Christmas sales to get a jumpstart on next year’s holiday shopping.

Another way you can save money over the year is to start collecting change. Every day when you come home, place your change in a jar; you’ll be surprised how much money you have accumulated by next Christmas.
