Sunscreen for all skin types

“Concerns over skin cancer, specifically the cancers that come from over-exposure to UVA and UVB radiation, are causing major concerns for the general public. We are seeing a great concern about the importance of sunscreen for protecting our skin, not just from cancer but also from the effects of aging. Sun exposure leads to wrinkles and hyper pigmentation by damaging the dermis of the skin. People want to know that the products they put on their face are healthy and functional,” Sayer says.

Below are terrific sunscreen options that can be used with or without your favorite makeup:

For the delicate eye area

Protect and hydrate your delicate eye area using Murad Essential-C Eye Cream SPF 15 ($67). It not only softens the appearance of lines and dark circles, but also prevents sun damage in an area where those little lines can show up first.

For acne-prone skin

Do you have oily or acne prone skin and want sun protection that’s light in feel and won’t clog pores or cause breakouts? Try Kimberly Sayer’s Ultra Light Facial Moisturizer – SPF 30 ($32). Kimberly says, “We developed our moisturizers with natural proven physical sunscreen blockers Titanium Oxide and Zinc Oxide (non micronized particles) to protect skin from harmful UV radiation.”

For mature skin

If you have more mature skin, look to the leaders of science and anti-aging technology at Olay. Their ProX Age Repair line protects, treats and transforms the skin while providing protection from harmful UVA and UVB exposure. A personal favorite of mine is Pro-X Age Repair Lotion with SPF 30 ($47).

For fine lines and wrinkles

An amazing find for me as a makeup artist is a primer with sunscreen that optically corrects fine lines, wrinkles and pores while also providing SPF 50. Anthelios 50 Daily Anti-Aging Primer with Sunscreen ($40) is a dream before the application of any foundation.

For a sun kissed glow

Want to add that sun kissed glow to the face or body without the harmful effects of the sun? Try Whish SPF 15 Self Tanner ($34); it will give you that bronze glow and sun protection all at once and smells of fresh coconut — just like a trip to Tahiti! Add a dash of powder bronzer like Three Custom Color Specialists’ Bronzer ($40) over the high points of your face for a subtle sheen. For the lips

Protect yours (and everyone’s) lips as well! Soften and shield your lips from the harsh effects of the sun with Mario Badescu’s Lip Wax SPF 15 ($7). It contains a blend of rose hips, palm oil and vitamin E oil for an emollient, creamy lip treatment that protects against UVA and UVB rays. It’s also deliciously fragranced with black currant extract.

For men

Don’t forget to protect the men in your life as well! Neutrogena makes terrific products for guys with even the most sensitive skin. This moisturizer ($6) has an SPF 30 and soothes, hydrates and protects. Feels great after a shave!

Be safe in the sun and have a happy summer!
