Friday’s Fashion Fails: Lauren Conrad and Ashley Olsen

Lauren Conrad

Is Lauren Conrad moonlighting as a beekeeper since her days on The Hills? The former MTV reality star turned author headed to a book signing in Los Angeles wearing this Zayan embroidered dress with a net overlay. Technically, the fabric is probably tulle, but it seems like something meant to keep out insects to us.

The unfortunate overlay aside, this dress feels rather fancy to wear to a Barnes and Noble bookstore, no? In addition to being too dressy for the occasion, the white floral frock looks like something your zany grandma would wear to Sunday brunch. Then again, LC recently said that “inside I’m like 80” on Chelsea Lately, so maybe that explains it.

The final verdict? The white part of the dress isn’t awful but that flouncy tulle overlay has got to go! It adds bulk to Lauren’s figure. But we do love her cute topknot hairdo and soft, summery makeup.

Ashley Olsen

When most people go to polo, they dress preppy chic or channel Pretty Woman perhaps. But Ashley Olsen is not most people. Instead, she chose this vintage kimono for the Veuve Clicquot Polo Match in Jersey City.

The twin rocked an embroidered red Oriental-looking caftan for the event, which was hosted by Nacho Figueras and Matthew McConaughey. First of all, temps were in the upper 80s the day of the event so we can’t imagine Ash was able to stay cool under those long sleeves and skirt. And secondly, the outfit just feels off for a polo match. We know she and Mary-Kate have a unique sense of style, but do they always have to dress so oddly?

The final verdict? Ashley accessorized her look with sunglasses from The Row and sandals by Hermes, and we totally approve of her accessories. Next time she’s hitting a polo match, how about a sundress or chic maxi?
