Inspired by the beautiful and delicate markings on a bird’s eggs (which is hard to miss on the finished products), the speckled eggshell one-of-a-kind nail lacquers by Illamasqua have us ecstatic. They’re currently available in five pastel and neutral shades for spring 2013 including: Speckle (a lavender/eggplant shade), Motle (mint green), Fragile (a classic robin’s egg blue; think Tiffany blue, but darker), Scarce (an orange-y tan) and Freckle (a shade that reminds me of cappuccino).
The Speckled Nail Varnish is unlike anything you’ve seen before, and the finish itself is surprising. David Horne, Illamasqua’s director of new product development, is in love with everything Illamasqua is up to. “We’re where MAC was years ago, at the tipping point,” he says. “Illamasqua listens to its fans; we’re always on social media.” And the brand that has given us rich pigments and gorgeous blushes and nail lacquers is now upping the ante with new finishes and truly mind-boggling product innovations. The last time we were so crazy about nail lacquers was when Deborah Lippmann came out with her sparkling Happy Birthday glitter nail color.
How did we like it?
The first coat covers like thin ice and when you apply it, you’ll wonder if two coats will be enough. The answer is yes although I personally prefer three coats to get the appropriate finish (below).
Fleury Rose, Illamasqua’s US nail ambassador, says that the Speckled Collection allows you to become a nail art connoisseur without being an artist. “The black matte speckles create a multidimensional pattern on each nail and contrast with each pastel shade. You can even create your own hue by mixing and matching shades,” she adds.
