Must-pack beauty essentials for any summer outing

Headband

Even a gentle summer breeze can wreak havoc on your hair. Should the wind (or a roller coaster) turn your blowout into a hot mess, a headband can help give your locks new life, or at least keep strands out of your face and make for a more polished look. We like this on trend tribal print headband, which can easily be added to any outfit (shopbop.com, $25).

Spray toner

Hot, humid days can render even the palest among us pink-cheeked and sweaty. Cool off with the refreshing blast of a spray toner. Going on a picnic or road trip? Keep your toner in the cooler so it offers even more of a chilly blast. There are countless options to choose from, but we like the ones with added skin-saving benefits like antioxidants. Try Ole Henriksen Pick Me Up Face Tonic formulated with vitamin C and soothing chamomile (sephora.com, $21).

Elastics

You never know when you’re going to need to tie your hair back. If you’ve ever driven in a convertible with the top down or strolled along the beach sans elastic, you know how easy it is for your tresses to turn into tangles. We’re big fans of Goody Ouchless Hair Elastics that come in a ball of 36 so you’ll never run out (target.com, $5).

Sunscreen

No one wants a burn. Not only are they unsightly, but they’re the ultimate skin sin. Keep your face and body protected with a broad spectrum sunscreen (which protects from both UVA and UVB rays) and reapply if you sweat or get wet. Pack Clinique Super City Block Oil-Free Daily Face Protector SPF 40 ($21) for great on-the-go coverage. It’s weightless and protects against environmental damage.

Cleansing cloths

Cleansing cloths are a girl’s best friend on the road. Wash your face without water, freshen up between events or even clean up sticky fingers when you’re traveling with kids. We never leave home without them and always have a package of Yes to Cucumbers Facial Towelettes in our bag no matter where we go (ulta.com, $7). They remove makeup, refresh skin and exfoliate all in one. Oh, and they’re biodegradable, too.

Tinted lip gloss

A swipe of berry-hued gloss is an instant pick-me-up and the easiest way to brighten up your look on the go. Choose something non-sticky and in a flattering shade with a touch of shimmer. Our go-to gloss this summer is Joe Fresh Lip Tint in Mango ($6).

How to incorporate summer colors into your makeup

Lean how to use makeup colors and the colors of the season to look great in the summer. SheKnows.com and their celebrity makeup artist, Allison Pynn, show you how easy it is to use colors that fit the season.
